Chainmail Making Class : Scalemail

$30.00

Prerequisite: None

The Course:

In this course, we'll be focused on using existing rings and scales and integrating both in order to create beautiful works that dazzle the eye.

You'll learn how to make both single line and overlapped scalemail designs as well as how to “stabilize” the edge scales so they don't rotate where you don't want them.

After learning the process for making your own, you will get a hands on demonstration of the weaving process, as well as, best practices for making the process more simple.

You will be spending the vast majority of the class making your desired product. There are three options to choose from, which all use the same techniques from this class:

  1. Shoulder Pauldron, which will have a “blanket” of scales that cover your shoulder. Likely, you'll want to make a chainmail “rope” or get a leather strap to connect to the pauldron. This will keep it on your body.

  2. Scalemail Glove, which will be a “blanket” of scales over the back of your hand and fingers. From there, you'll get instructions for sewing them onto a glove.

  3. Scalemail Necklace, you'll make a “snake” like scale chain and connect it with a simple clasp. You should bring a charm or something to add to the front of the necklace.

This is the second course in the series and while you don’t need to do the Intro to Chainmail class first, it is encouraged but not required.

As an aside, if you have an idea for the next class in the series, please bring your ideas. I'd love to hear them!

Important Information:

  • When ordering choose the option you want to make during the class

  • Sections are run in an hour and thirty minute sessions

  • Sections consist of 30 minutes of instruction and 1 hour of guided chainmail making

  • If you run over time you may continue making your chainmail

  • Event takes place 5/15/2026
